Myofascial pain syndrome is a chronic pain disorder characterized by pain and inflammation in the body's soft tissues or muscles. It often involves trigger points, which are tender or tight/taut spots in the fascia—the connective tissue surrounding muscles—that can cause pain directly or refer pain to other areas when pressed.

Causes of Myofascial Pain Syndrome:

  • Muscle Overuse or Injury: Repeated motions or stress on particular muscles can lead to the development of trigger points.

  • Poor Posture: Long-term poor posture can strain muscles and contribute to the formation of trigger points.

  • Psychological Stress: Emotional stress and tension can increase muscle tension and worsen pain.

  • Lack of Activity: Sedentary lifestyle or a lack of exercise can weaken muscles and contribute to discomfort.

Impact on Life: Myofascial pain syndrome can significantly affect daily life due to persistent pain and discomfort, which can disrupt sleep and reduce an individual's ability to perform everyday activities. The pain can limit mobility and range of motion, making it difficult to maintain physical activity or complete tasks that require physical exertion. This condition is often treated with medications but using interventional techniques like trigger point injections we are able to release these taut bands.
